Description
In a career spanning over six decades, Farhatullah Babar served as an engineer, a teacher at the College of Technology in Peshawar in the 1960s and at a multinational in Saudi Arabia.Switching to information and journalism, he worked as director of information NWFP (now Pakhtunkhwa), director of information Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, (PAEC), newspaper editor, columnist, speech writer to PM Benazir Bhutto (1988-90), spokesperson to PM Bhutto (1993-96), and spokesperson to President Asif Ali Zardari (2008-2013).
Moving into politics, he served as a PPP Senator for three terms from Pakhtunkhwa, the party’s spokesperson and secretary general, chair of the Parliamentary Commission on the South Punjab province, chair of the special senate committee on the Right to Information (RTI) and member of senate committees on defence and human rights.
He is a life member of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, life member of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and currently also president of the human rights cell of the PPP.
A recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz, he has authored two books and written extensively in newspapers on national and international issues, compiled in ten volumes.
